Update from Willem in Dubai

And then June arrives..!!!

Hi All, can’t believe how time flies with only 2 months left before the Rockies. Must say that I am now really looking forward to it and just the fact of seeing green grass and trees will get me excited as it will be such a contrast compared with Dubai.

My training is going well at the moment and had two good sessions over the weekend. Started off on Friday morning with a roadbike club ride and did a total of 150km which was a good 4.5hrs on the saddle. We set off at 5.30am and it was already 29degrees Celsius, by the time we got back into Dubai at around 09.30am the temperatures soared up to 42degrees. Believe me I just wanted to get off the bike and into the shade, luckily the Lime Tree Café serves a great breakfast and the watermelon/orange cocktail juice is unbelievable!! Well deserved after having sand blown in your face for the last 70km back into town! I was pretty tired after the ride but after a good feed and nap I was feeling fine again which is great news as I am recovering faster between sessions.

Saturday morning…I was up again at 4am to start riding at 5am as I had some other commitments today. Went out on the mountain bike for 2hrs on the gravel roads behind Jumeirah Islands in Dubai. See picture of me trying to wake up just before I get on the goat!! I recovered well from the long ride the day before and was cruising along on the gravel tracks which are now actually quite sandy with the wind and construction vehicles crossing. Did a good 2 hrs and was on my way home just after 7am and in time for my course starting at 9am.

Oh yeah,,, I am getting my bike ‘pimped’ out with a set of new Crossmax SLR Mavic wheels with Nobby Nics tubeless tyres. Will hopefully have it in the next 2wks and will post a picture then!
